Confirmation of Payee – which model is best for you?

The 31 October deadline for Confirmation of Payee (CoP) compliance is fast approaching. With the introduction of Pay.UK’s new CoP directory, Payment Service Providers (PSPs) now have the choice to connect either directly or indirectly to the CoP scheme. At SurePay, we offer both choices and are here to help, whichever model is best for your organisation.

Two CoP models to choose from

As the operator and standards body for payments in the UK, Pay.UK has introduced two models for participating in CoP, under the impending SD17 regulations, to enable organisations to join the service. As the UK’s most trusted CoP provider, at SurePay we can assist you whether you choose the direct or indirect participation model, where we act as an ‘aggregator’. Here, we’ll break down some of the key differences between the direct and indirect models, to help you choose which one is best for you.

Direct participation in CoP

The direct participation model resembles the current model which all current participants of CoP in the UK are using. In this model, the PSP has a contract with Pay.UK and connects directly to the CoP directory to respond to incoming requests and/or send requests to other participants in the scheme. PSPs can choose to build their own solution to connect to other participants and perform matching, or they can hire a solution provider like SurePay.

As the UK’s most trusted CoP solution provider, SurePay can ensure you have the peace of mind of being CoP compliant as a direct participant. We will support you, every step of the way.

Indirect participation in CoP with aggregator model

The indirect participation model offers the same functionality but takes away the additional work for the PSP to connect directly with Pay.UK. In this model, an ‘aggregator’ establishes the connection with Pay.UK once and connects participants via that connection on the CoP directory, enabling them to send and receive CoP requests. Connecting to the CoP directory via an aggregator allows for greater scalability in onboarding, effectively shifting the majority of the onboarding work to the aggregator.

As the experts in CoP, SurePay is a trusted aggregator. We’re here to help take much of the work out of CoP, if you think the indirect participant model is best for you.

We are here to help, whichever you choose

Opting to be an indirect participant means SurePay handles the connection and upkeep with PayUK while still delivering high quality service, just like we do for direct participants. But whichever you choose, we’re here to help.
