Confirmation of Payee for PSP

Please request a sample implementation plan to learn more about the process and timelines for implementing SurePay Confirmation of Payee or the IBAN-Name Check.

All of SurePay’s Confirmation of Payee solutions are API-based and can be easily integrated with existing PSP infrastructure. The solution is a Software-as-a-Service solution and therefore does not require the deployment or installation of any physical devices in PSP datacentres.

Integrating the SurePay CoP solution is relatively simple due to its API-based nature. Depending on your wishes, you may prefer to include some of SurePay’s data management options specifically designed for Confirmation of Payee.

Throughout our experience as the leading Confirmation of Payee Solution provider in the UK, the Netherlands, Italy and France, it’s become apparent that having a name matching algorithm in place alone does not sufficiently support PSPs seeking to deliver Confirmation of Payee. Another key component is managing PSPs data and having the right data available for matching purposes.

SurePay’s data management solutions do provide a variety of ways through which PSP may provision their data to the name matching functionality, whilst taking into account both the needs of Large Scale PSPs and smaller scale PSPs. Please request a brochure here for more information on the data management options SurePay has available for you.

SurePay’s Confirmation of Payee solution provides a tried-and-tested functionality for PSPs in the UK seeking to implement and comply with Confirmation of Payee. The functionality fully complies with the relevant specifications and regulation as set out by the industry. In the design of our CoP solution, required matching rules and purpose of Confirmation of Payee has been taken into account.

Furthermore, the functionality supports ISO20022-based information exchange between PSPs & SurePay, as well as from the SurePay functionality onward to the Open Banking Environment.

The name matching functionality that SurePay delivers as part of the solution for Confirmation of Payee is fully compliant with industry specifications and guidelines. The algorithm leverages existing know-how and expertise from the IBAN-Name Check solution SurePay operates in the Netherlands, fully tailored to the UK market.

The name matching functionality features built-in matching logic, which ensures highly accurate matching without introducing any detriments to end users of the service. Moreover, as a result of integrated matching rules, the functionality is able to interpret both structures and unstructured PSP data and matching input.

SurePay delivers a variety of components that support PSPs seeking to implement Confirmation of Payee through its SurePay CoP solution. The solution comprises the following key components:

  • Name matching functionality
  • Data management options
  • Open Banking Connectivity

The above components are complementary to one another, but may also be used separately depending on PSP’s needs and requirements.

When making a transfer online, the SurePay Confirmation of Payee verifies the entered account details of the beneficiary prior to the actual transfer. The verification is based on the unique combination of the account holder’s name information belonging to a specific account number. The payer’s bank sends the entered account name and number to SurePay, which in turn verifies the details against the available data in order to provide a response. Should entered details be incorrect (i.e. the beneficiary name does not match with the names known at the bank for this account number), then the payment initiator will get a notification. The payer might be at risk of payment fraud or possibly has made a mistake.

CoP for Building Societies

CoP is a name matching solution designed to verify payment details. It increases operating efficiency, reduces fraud, and enables your building society to comply with the regulatory mandate.

CoP checks are available to all accounts held by participating building societies, and SurePay can extend CoP checks Cross-Border and as a European IBAN-Name Check solution.

Building Societies can implement CoP through an API for real-time checks or a batch file (coming soon) for one-off verifications.

The costs of using the API service are divided into two categories: implementation and operational. building societies can discuss costs depending on their individual requirements. For further information, please contact our CoP expert for building societies.

SurePay maintains data security by implementing strong confidentiality measures such as ISO27001 compliance and other sub-processing guidelines outlined in the Data Processing Agreement, all in accordance with GDPR.

SurePay’s CoP solutions are API-based, offering easy integration with existing systems of building societies. Data management options are tailored to their needs, supporting both large and smaller-scale implementations.

Yes, SurePay’s CoP solution complies with industry regulations and specifications mandated by PayUK, aligning with relevant standards set by the industry and supporting ISO20022 based information exchange.

SurePay’s CoP solution includes name matching functionality, data management options, and open banking connectivity. These components work together to offer a comprehensive CoP solution, supporting building societies in implementing and complying with CoP requirements.

CoP for Organisations

The SurePay CoP check can help your company in several ways – our existing customers generally use it to overcome three issues:

  1. Be sure who your customer is: implement the CoP check at the onboarding of new customers to ensure the process goes as fluently as possible and to decrease the chances of fraud.
  2. Ensure you have the correct payment details: implement the CoP check in your payment system to ensure that your payment or invoice goes to the right person or company.
  3. Speed up the process: manual checks on your customer and/or suppliers costs time and resources. Our API solution works instantly and shows in a blink of an eye if the provided name corresponds with the payee name and bank account.

Several of our clients applied the CoP service at their onboarding and client accepting process. They recorded a 90% decrease in drop-outs during onboarding and a 80% decrease in fraudulent onboarding.

Example clients: The Netherlands’ largest insurance companies and Atom Bank in the UK.

Many of our clients make use of the CoP service to reduce the percentage of uncollectible invoices. Our clients saw a decrease of 50% in overall uncollectible invoices as a result of implementing our CoP solution.

Example clients: We performed millions of CoP checks for the Dutch government and HMRC for the Covid-19 payouts.

All Sterling accounts of CoP participating banks can be checked. The check can be applied on both personal and business accounts.

As from March 2020, the CoP service is live in the UK for all major banks. Since then, new banks are joining the CoP scheme every month and thereby increasing the coverage.

PSR has mandated more and more banks to implement CoP, allowing more accounts to be checked. OF ZOIETS:)

On an international level, SurePay is able to provide the service across borders as well. This service is available in countries where SurePay is currently active. For more information please fill in the contact form.

A CoP check can be performed via an API or batch check. When the API is implemented in your company’s system, the CoP check is executed real-time. When providing data via a batch check, you will receive the results within a couple of days.

When using the API to perform CoP, the check is performed within less than 0.1 seconds. This makes it three times faster than a blink of an eye.

At our end, we can have the API up and running within a day. In reality, we see that the implementation time mostly depends on the customer’s ability to implement and test. In this process we can support the client.

Costs for using the API service are split into two segments: Implementation and Running Costs. SurePays is more than happy to discuss the costs for your organisation. Please feel free to contact us

Yes, it is possible to provide data via a batch file instead. This is a great solution when your company wants to do a one-off check of its customers or suppliers. Please contact us for more information
